Roatan 2004 |

Melissa and I went to Roatan at the end of August. We decided to stay at Coco View Resort because of the easily accessible shore diving. We did, however, have some reservations about staying at such a secluded resort. Our biggest concern was being trapped into a "meal plan." Our fears were quickly proven unfounded. The food was ever changing and spectacular. I found myself going back for seconds regularly and never once did we feel the need to go "out to eat." From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the overall atmosphere at the resort. The workers and fellow divers were amongst the nicest we have encountered in the Caribbean. The entire staff made an effort to make you feel at home, most knew our names within a few days. We were always greeted with a smile and some friendly words. The accommodations were very good. We loved staying in the over-the-water bungalows. Though they are now air-conditioned, we did not need it at night. The water lapping against the pylons was better than counting sheep. We found the diving to be pretty decent but not the best we have seen. Hopefully, it was just the wrong time of year to go, for while the hurricanes that ripped through the Caribbean and Florida did not hit Roatan, their indirect effects were certainly felt. Bottom line: we cannot wait to go back. Overall, this was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable trips we have ever taken. We would like to go again in the spring season when conditions should be better. It was quite easy to see why so many guests return multiple visits.
